If you wish to get new skills and work on your research, you will need Knowledge. To farm Knowledge, you need to build certain structures. Libraries, Academies, Scholar Guilds, and Arcane Institutes can help increase the amount of Knowledge you can store. For Province Improvements, you need to select Research Posts and Frostpires to farm Knowledge points. Also, investing in your Tome and unlocking new Affinities in the Affinity skill tree can help you get knowledge.
You can check the total Knowledge you have stored by checking the left side of the screen. You can see how much knowledge you have, and how much you can invest. When you pick the Research tree, pick the skill you wish to invest in and hover over it. It will show you how much Knowledge you need to unlock it.
