All you need to build a basic makeshift shelter is a tarp and a stick. You can get both of these items very early in the game. Head over to the crash site to scavenge for supplies. One of the supply boxes will have a tarp, which can keep it in your inventory. Now all that is required is a stick. You can get a wooden stick along the shoreline, or you can venture a bit further to get it. Wooden sticks are common to find, so you won’t have any problem here.
Next is to find a place where you would like to rest. Equip the tarp from your inventory and place it on the ground. Equip the stick after that and go close to the tarp’s corner. You will get the command to use the stick. You now have a makeshift shelter where you can get some rest.
