The rundown of the game will be explained by Polk himself, but if you are still confused, you can read the gist of the gameplay here. You will get a default board to play with in the beginning, but as you keep winning you will get Condor Coins. You can use these coins to unlock new boards from Old Snapper at the Happy Turtle bar. Each board will give you different stats and Materia, which will help you against your opponent. Some boards can be gotten by defeating higher level players as well.
You will get three unit types to defend your base. The three types are Vanguard, Ranged, and Defense. Each of them have their own color and icon, with Red being for Vanguard, Blue for Defense, and Green for Ranged. You will have to use your strongest unit against the opponent’s weakest unit. Below are which units can be used to defeat which units.
- Vanguard > Ranged
- Ranged > Defense
- Defense > Vanguard
If you let your opponent go first, you can easily counter them and reduce their units. You can also use your board’s special Mateira, but these can only be used once per game. It is best to only use them when you feel cornered.
Besides this, you will also have 3 bases to defend. You will have 2 outposts and 1 headquarters, and your opponent’s board will have the same. The goal is to destroy the headquarters first to get a clear victory. In case the timer runs out and you or your opponent wasn’t able to make a move, then whoever destroyed the most outposts will be declared the winner.
As you keep progressing, you can buy better units for defense from Old Snapper or the Junk Shop. Each unit will cost a certain amount of ATB, which gets filled as you keep playing the match. When the unit is available, you can place it on the board. There are three difficulties you can choose to play the game on. They are Easy, Medium, and Hard Mode. Each mode has its pros and cons, so you can decide which mode you wish to play in.
When you first start playing Fort Condor, you will be at Rank 1. You will have to find other NPCs of the same level and defeat them to advance to the next level. There are 3 Rank 1 players, and once you defeat them you will find 2 Rank 2 players. Once you defeat them as well, there is one Rank 3 player to battle, before coming face to face with the Grandmaster. Once you defeat all the players, you will earn your reward.
