Before you can start capturing capybaras, you need to craft a medium animal trap. You can unlock the medium trap under Animal Breeding in the Knowledge and Technology section’s Dawn of the New Tribe. You will require the correct crafting materials to build the trap. Next, you will also need items to help repair it. Any structure that is built outside your base will start to deteriorate, so you need to repair it frequently till you are able to capture the animal. You will require basic items like Planks, Hardwood, Thatch, and Thick Rope for repairing the cage from time to time. You will also require any fruit or vegetable to be placed as bait.
Once you are ready, make your way to any small water body to locate Capybaras. You can use your Habit Analysis skill to scan capybaras nearby. You need to focus on getting the baby capybara inside the cage, so kill any adult capybara around so that they won’t steal your bait. Place the cage close to the baby capybara and put the food inside. Wait for a while and you will see the baby capybara making its way to the cage. After capturing it, take it back to your base to raise it.
