To start catching fish, you need to craft a fish trap. You can unlock traps under the Animal Breeding skill in Dawn of the New Tribe section of your Knowledge and Technology tree. Once this skill is unlocked, you can start crafting various traps, and one of them is the fish trap. You require 5x branches, 5x leather, and 20x thick rope to craft one fish trap. Next, make your way to any water body and explore the waters to spot any fish nearby. If you see a school of fish, then this area is optimal to place a fish trap

Craft and place the fish trap near the shoreline and place some bait into it. Different baits will attract different types of fish, so experiment with lotuses, poisonous bugs, and fresh meat. You have a chance of attracting piranhas, koi fish, and catfish this way. Once they are trapped, you can pick them up and take them to your base. You can craft dedicated pools for them like the piranha pool to place the fish for fish farming. Or you can use your butcher’s knife and chop them up right there inside the trap to carry the meat to your base
