Sumeru’s second preview teaser was released recently and we couldn’t be more hyped. From the worldbuilding, landscape and scenery and even the soundtrack- Genshin Impact has once again topped itself on world and sound design. Sumeru is looking to be beautiful and perfectly contrasts the previous region of Inazuma in a lot of ways.
What was Sumeru Preview Teaser 02: Of Rain and Sand About?
The second preview teaser for Sumeru was all about geography. We learnt about Sumeru will have two major landscapes- one of a rainforest while the other of a desert. From the look of things, the desert regions seem inspired by desert canyons from real-world locations and the rainforests take inspiration from places like the Amazon rainforest.
The developers spoke about how they did not want things to be too realistic and rather keep a balance between the realistic and fantasy elements to evoke that enchanting fantasy world sensation in its players. In the rainforest regions, we’re expected to experience forest civilizations that build their homes and cultures in harmony with the surrounding nature. The geography seems booming with giant trees with overhanging roots that cling to the cliffs and forest floors. The Sumerian mountain and cliffs, unlike the sharp edges of Inazuma, will have softer, curved edges this time.
As for the desert areas, we’re expected to see newer types of ancient ruins and temples and a general sense of rot and decay. We get a sneak peek at one of these upside-down ruins that seem situated at the centre of the deserted geography. Players will also have to go underground as many regions lay buried underneath the desert surface.
We also got a special region with giant glowing mushrooms which seems to be its own topography. Players will also have to get used to constant rain in some regions as the rainforests are based on humid tropical climates where it rains all year round. Additionally, the devs also talk about the two giant Ruin robots who have something to do with Sumerian history. Players will have to explore and discover these mysteries on their own as they take on quests in Sumeru.
Overall, Sumeru offers a completely new experience compared to the harsh, ruthless environment of Inazuma. Sumeru seems dense and welcoming unlike the unwelcoming, battle-torn lands of Inazuma. Inazuma, as beautiful as it is, was never a place players felt safe and chill- unlike Liyue or Mondstadt. Maybe Sumeru will change that and veteran players can now wander Sumeru without the threat of monsters and enemies at every corner.
