Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is the latest installment in the Pokémon games franchise, but the age-long question remains; which version should you choose? Since Pokémon games first hit the shelves, there have been various versions of the game, making it a tough decision on which game offers the best Pokémon. In this guide, we will see what makes Pokémon Scarlet different from Pokémon Violet and which version should you go for.
Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet – Which Version Should You Buy?
The latest Pokémon installment will be out very soon, and before that here is a rundown of everything both versions have to offer. Here we will see which version you should buy in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
To start, for anyone who is pre-ordering any of the Pokémon versions, all the Preorder bonuses will remain the same for both versions. The bonuses will only vary across regions and stores, with Amazon US and Best Buy USA offering in-game Healing Set and Berry Set, while GameStop and Target USA offering a Pin Set and a Starter Figure. There are other region exclusives, like the Nintendo Store UK offering Steelbooks. With that said, let’s jump into what each version has to offer, starting with Pokémon Scarlet.
Pokémon Scarlet Exclusives
Pokémon Scarlet seems to have a prehistoric theme, with its legendary Pokémon taking on a more dinosaur-like appearance. For the Legendary Pokémon, you will get Koraidon, and its moves will be termed Builds. As per the new Pokémon designs, Koraidon can turn into a vehicle, complete with wheels. Its design is a bit more primitive, as even though it seems to have a set of wheels, it doesn’t use them and runs on its legs instead. Koraidon can also ride on water, inflating its upper wheel to turn into a float while paddling with its legs. There are wings attached to Koraidon which can be used to fly/glide across the sky.
Now that you know the details of Koraidon’s physical build, Pokémon Scarlet will offer another exclusive Pokémon particular to that region. You will receive the following Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet.
- Larvitar – Rock-type beginner Pokemon
- Pupitar – Second Evolution of Larvitar
- Tyranitar – Final Evolution of Larvitar
- Armarouge – Fire/Psychic Type Pokemon
- Stonejourner – Rock-Type Pokemon
- Great Tusk
When it comes to the main characters, the uniforms will be orange/white-themed. You will be enrolled in a school called Naranja Academy in Mesagoza, situated in Paldea. The emblem of the school is orange colored with large orange fruit in the middle. The school director, Clavell, will also don an orange suit to match the theme, but this will vary on the version you pick. The Team Star colors for Pokémon Scarlet will also have orange outfits. You will also receive the Scarlet Book, detailing the unknown Pokémon Great Tusk. As for the Professor, you will get to meet Professor Sada, who will wear an attire that is similar to prehistoric times.
Pokémon Violet Exclusives
Pokémon Violet takes a more futuristic approach, and that can be seen in Legendary Pokémon’s design. For Pokémon Violet, you will receive Miraidon, and its moves will be termed Modes. Just like Koraidon, Miraidon can also turn into a vehicle and has jets to propel it further. These jets consume energy to accelerate. Miraidon can also glide on the water, using the jets on its legs to zip past. The jets can also help Miraidon glide/fly in the sky and have a more sleek design with futuristic attributes.
With that said, Pokémon Violet also offers exclusive Pokémon, as listed below.
- Bagon – Dragon Type Pokemon
- Shelgon – Second evolution for Bagon
- Salamence – Final evolution for Bagon
- Ceruledge – Fire/Ghost type Pokemon
- Eiscue – Ice-type Pokemon
- Iron Treads
The color theme for Pokémon Violet will be white/violet color, and the main characters will have these colors integrated into their uniform. You will be attending Uva Academy in Mesagoza city, located in Paldea region. The school emblem will be purple, with an image of grapes on it. The school director Clavell will don a purple colored suit. Team stars will also follow the color scheme and have purple outfits. Those who purchase Pokémon Violet will receive the Violet book, documenting the unknown Pokémon Iron Treads. As for the professor, you will meet with Professor Turo, and his outfit will match the futuristic theme of the version.
Now it all comes down to choice and preference. If you enjoy the historic style of Pokémon Scarlet and the Pokémon it provides, you can select that version. Or if you like the sleek and modern style of Pokémon Violet along with the Pokémon included, you can select that version instead. The storyline and starter Pokémon will be the same in both versions, so it all comes down to your choice of Pokémon.
