A simple way to increase follower loyalty is to interact with them. You can give them a blessing every day to let them remember that you do indeed care for them. You can do this by clicking on the hand sign after interacting with a follower, which will bless them. While this method takes up quite a bit of time if you have a lot of followers, it helps to know exactly how many followers you have.
You may also give your followers gifts such as necklaces to keep them loyal to you. Necklaces are obtained when you go on crusades. These have some boosts associated with them, so the follower wearing the necklace will get the benefits. Note that you cannot take gifts back, and the necklace will belong to the follower until they die.
Perhaps the most effective way to increase follower loyalty is to perform sermons. You can do this once a day at the temple altar. Select the Sermon option as you approach the altar in the church, and your followers will listen to what you have to say. This improves their loyalty towards you.
