In Windrose, sulfur is an important midgame resource that you will need to craft some higher-level weapons such as explosives. However, sulfur is not easily accessible, as it is introduced much later during the game than other resources. You will have two options to obtain sulfur: either by mining a particular rock formation or purchasing from a merchant. In this guide, you’ll learn how to get sulfur and what you can use it for.
How to Get Sulfur

If you want to collect sulfur in Windrose, you will have to progress a little in the game first. You may only get sulfur after the defeat of the first boss, Thomas Richards, in the Coastal Jungle biome. After defeating him, the next unlockable region will be the Foothills. In the Foothills, you will find sulfur nodes on boulders and vertical rocks covered with yellow deposits. These will require you to use an Iron Pickaxe to collect them.
Another way of obtaining sulfur is to purchase it from the Natural Resources Merchant. He sells up to 50 units of sulfur at once, though each will cost you 40 Piastres. Purchasing it is another great way if you don’t feel like searching for rare sulfur nodes in the Foothills or just want to save time.
How to Use Sulfur

The primary use of sulfur is to make Homemade Gunpowder. Each time you create Homemade Gunpowder, you receive 10 units of gunpowder, thus making sulfur an essential material if you want to use explosives in future or craft some items.
When you first collect sulfur, it triggers a new discovery in your journal. Sulfur can only be found in the Foothills biome, which you unlock after progressing past the early part of the game. With this discovery, you can unlock the creation of Homemade Gunpowder as well.
