You can equip plates on your person to boost your defense and improve your armor, but when you first start the game you can only equip 2 armor plates. If you need to increase your armor-carrying capacity, you need to find an armor satchel. With the satchel, you can get an additional slot. This is especially useful if you are planning to enter any high-fire zone. All players need to prioritize improving their armor plate slots, so finding the satchel early in the game is preferred. You can find more plates to replace your existing damaged plates, and that will take up an entire stack of armor before filling up any partial plates.
You can also determine what armor type a player is wearing by shooting at it. Now, the plates will come color-coded, with each color representing how high or low tier the armor is. Purple plates indicate a higher tier, thus providing better defense, while blue is a low tier plate.
