In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, character stats aren’t mere background noise; they’re the very basis of every fight, every build, and every clutch save you manage to pull off in the midst of battle. Alright, there are only five primary Attributes to keep track of, but each one affects your performance in more ways than you’d imagine.

And that’s where things get interesting: your equipment corresponds to your build. Each weapon is optimised to a specific combination of two Attributes, which in turn means that sweet new sword you picked up? It may be a total game-changer on one character and utterly useless on another.

How do Attribute Points Work?

It is challenging to level up your stats in Expedition 33, and you’ll spend your hard-earned Attribute Points at Expedition Flags, increasing one of the five core Attributes. Here’s what they do:

  • Vitality: The only means of increasing your Health. More HP, less dying. Simple.
  • Might: Turns up your Attack Power. If you’re a fan of big numbers and crit animations, this is your buddy.
  • Agility: Increases your Speed and Defence. Dodge quicker and get less damage? Sign me up.
  • Defence: Pretty simple, but also increases your Critical Rate. Tankier and sneakier.
  • Luck: A wild card stat that increases Speed and Crit Rate, so excellent for high-risk, high-reward builds.

Some of the stats overlap, such as Agility, Defence, and Luck. All double-dip into several secondary stats, which makes them ideal for more subtle builds. But if you are trying to bulk up raw damage or survivability, Might and Vitality are very important for you.

All the Attributes in Expedition 33

In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, efficiently constructing your characters is greatly dependent on how you invest in their Attributes. Each character has five base Attributes that affect their secondary stats and combat power in general. Here’s a simple explanation of what each attribute does and which characters get the most benefit from investing in them.

Vitality

Vitality directly adds to a character’s Health pool, enabling them to take more damage before getting knocked out. This stat is beneficial to all characters but is particularly crucial for Lune, who serves as the party’s primary healer and reviver. Having her survivability ensures she can keep on supporting the rest of the team.

Nonetheless, players who feel strong in their dodging or parrying abilities at all times might choose to downplay Vitality.

Might

Might boosts a character’s overall attack power, influencing all types of offensive skills. It benefits the party’s main damage dealers, Maelle, Sciel, and Verso, the most. Prioritising Might gives them their best offence.

Agility

Agility influences how frequently a character gets to act in combat by boosting their Speed. It also gives a little bonus to Defence. Although it’s a great stat for the entire team, it’s beneficial for:

  • Gustave uses constant actions to charge overcharge.
  • Sciel, who employs turns to cast and activate Foretell.
  • Verso who builds momentum from charging Perfection and Rank.

Defence

Defence reduces incoming damage from all sources and also contributes to a character’s Critical Hit Rate. This makes it valuable for most characters, but particularly helpful for:

  • Lune, to further increase her survivability in a support role.
  • Monoco, who benefits from staying alive longer to continue using his Bestial Wheel effectively.

Luck

Luck enhances both Speed and Critical Hit Rate, making it a good general-purpose offence stat. It’s best suited for:

  • Maelle, Sciel, and Verso are all heavily dependent on causing frequent and critical hits.
  • Gustave, as he accumulates Overcharge more quickly when he lands Crits.
