To find the Ruin Machine Core, make your way to the western teleport waypoint from Quaoying Village. From there, make your way north towards the marked location above. You will soon find an Automaton between the ruins. Defeat it to get an exquisite chest, and beside it you will get an investigate prompt. Investigate this place to get the Ruin Machine Core.
Take the core and travel to the second location south from where you fought the Automaton. You have to go down the ditch to find the Ruin Guard. Place the Ruin Machine Core within it to activate it. Defeat it to get entry into the secret cave behind it. There are enemies within the cave, fight them then unlock the chests and free the strange merchant. You will also get the Non-Hidden Backup Energy Source Achievement this way.
