There are long queues, which is expected with a new game. A lot of players are also reporting the Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt crashing on startup, not launching, black screen, and other issues. If you have run into these problems there are certain things you can do to fix the error. Keep reading to find out.
Fix Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt Crashing to Desktop on Launch
There are a number of reasons why a game may crash to desktop when you boot the game or crash mid-game. Unfortunately, there is no universal fix for this issue and you will have to try a bunch of things to get the game to work. Here are all the solutions we suggest.
Update the GPU Driver
NVIDIA launched a new Game Ready Driver on the 26th of April, ensure that you have updated your driver version to that – use GeForce Experience. AMD users can search for the same and update to the latest available driver.
Do Not Overclock – Close RGB Software
As Bloodhunt is built on Unreal Engine 4, which is known to not handle overclocking very well. It’s likely that your game is crashing due to the overclock, especially if you get the UE4-tiger error. Software like Rivatuner, Afterburner, etc. is known to crash the game. Other third-party software may also lead to the Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt crashing, hence, we suggest that you launch the game in a clean boot environment. The steps are in the next fix.
Perform a Clean Boot to Fix Bloodhunt Crashing
The clean boot environment is great to fix the issue of crashing to desktop with no error as it addresses some critical issues. It frees the resources on your system and disables all third-party applications that may be causing issues with the game. Here is how to perform the fix.
- Press Windows Key + R and type msconfig, hit Enter
- Go to the Services tab
- Check Hide all Microsoft services
- Now, click Disable all
- Go to the Startup tab and click on Open Task Manager
- Disable one task at a time and restart the system.
Once the system boots up again, try running Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt, and hopefully, you will be able to get into the game without any crashes.
Force the Game to Run in DirectX11
The game crashes more often when you run it on the default DirectX 12. Hence, try forcing the game to use DirectX 11 and you may be able to fix the crashing issue altogether. Here is how you can perform the fix. Open the Steam Client > Right-click on Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt > Properties > General tab > paste -dx11 in the Launch Options.
Verify Integrity of Game Files
If there is a corruption or missing file when you downloaded the game, it’s quite possible that the game can crash. Here is how to verify game files and fix the issue.
- From the Steam client
- Go to Library and right-click onBloodhunt, choose Properties
- Go to the Local Files tab and click on Verify integrity of game files…
Set Launch Option on Steam
If your PC is not powerful enough and the game is booting up in Fullscreen that may be the cause of the problem. Input a command in Steam and check if the game launches. Here is what you need to do.
Go to Steam Library > Right-click on Back 4 Blood > Properties > General tab > Set launch Option > Type -windowed -noborder > Ok.
