The Cycle: Frontier is a decent game. I played a bit of it during the beta if that’s what it was called and also played some today. It does not appear as much has changed in the game from the betas, and that’s a good thing. One of the issue players have been reporting is that the Cycle Frontier crashes randomly on their PC. So far the reports have been from a few users, so it’s likely the issue is on your end. Here are all the things we suggest you do to fix the crashes in The Cycle: Frontier.
The Cycle: Frontier Crashing on Startup or Mid-Game Fix
Before we discuss any other solution, ensure that your computer meets the requirements to play the game. Once that has been met, here are the solutions you can try in the order of their effectiveness. First is the most likely cause of the Cycle Frontier crashing.
Disable DX12 from the Settings
I remember the game warns that DX12 is an experimental feature and the feature is disabled by default, but if you went ahead and enabled DX12, the crash could be due to this. So, to fix the Cycle Frontier crashing, press the Esc key and go to Settings. In the Video tab, scroll down to the Advanced Settings and set ENABLE DX12 to Off.
If you cannot launch the game, force DX11 from the Steam client. Go to Launch Options for the game and enter –d3d11.
An Issue with the Server
Another main issue and probably why you are crashing mid-game is due to no fault of your own, but the stress on the servers. As the game just launched and looks so amazing, almost everyone interested in a multiplayer experience would want to try out the game. Also, the game is free, so it is bound to get traffic, especially during peak hours. There is nothing you can do about it if the problem is with the servers. Just wait a few days until the initial hype for the game and the crashes should reduce.
Run The Cycle: Frontier with Admin Permission
If the game is crashing for you and you are also getting the UE4 Fatal error, running the game with admin privilege should help. Sometimes, games without permission do not function desirably. Windows by default do not provide admin permission to any software, so you have to do it manually. To perform the steps – right-click on the desktop shortcut of the game and select Properties. Go to the Compatibility tab and check Run this program as an administrator.
Verify Integrity of Game Files
Verifying the integrity of game files fixes a lot of corrupt files that may have been causing the game to crash. Follow these steps to verify the integrity of The Cycle Frontier game files on Steam.
- Launch the Steam Desktop Client
- Go to Library → right-click on The Cycle: Frontier
- From the menu that pops up, select Properties
- From the new window, head over to the Local Files section
- Click on Verify integrity of game files…
- Let Steam verify the game files. The process may take a while.
After Steam is done, the window will close automatically. Now, try launching the game and check if The Cycle: Frontier is still crashing.
Do Not Overclock the GPU and Disable RGB Software
Another reason for the UE4-Prospect crash can be overclocking of the GPU. If you are using any software to overclock the GPU or RGB software, that may be the cause of the crash. If the Intel Turbo Boost is on, you may want to disable that as well to fix the crashing. There can be other software as well that can cause the crash, hence, we recommend a clean boot environment to run the game. Read the next fix.
Run the Game in a Clean Boot Environment
We have observed that users who have VR software installed on their PC face the UE4 crash more often than others. This software includes Oculus, VIVE, and other VR programs. Therefore, we suggest a clean boot environment.
- Press Windows Key + R and type msconfig, hit Enter
- Go to the Services tab
- Check Hide all Microsoft services (Very Important Step)
- Now, click Disable all
- Go to the Startup tab and click on Open Task Manager
- Disable one task at a time and restart the system.
That’s all we have in this guide at the moment. We will update the post when we know more about how to resolve the Cycle Frontier crashing issue.
