For each affinity branch you pick, you have to invest your points into the 13 available skills to properly manage your city. There are several ways to get affinity points, and you can earn them by just playing the game. You will get your starting affinity points when you create your character and pick your Tome. Picking your tome will give you two affinity points towards the affinity skill tree that Tome belongs to. Unlocking new spells and getting more Tomes in later gameplay can help you get more Affinity Points.
You can even get some affinity points from your Ruler that you have assigned to your Empire. You can acquire a +1 affinity point for every 5-level upgrade, and you can even claim certain affinity points from secondary heroes located in cities. Once you have the required points, you can invest in the Affinity skill tree and purchase the skill using the in-game currency, Imperium.
