Fans would have experienced how the underwater mechanics work while playing Call of Duty: Ghost’s underwater mission called Into the Deep. But unlike diving into the ocean, in Modern Warfare 2 you can only access the lakes, streams, and other small bodies.
Underwater combat is a dynamic mechanic which gives you more freedom to engage with the enemy. But there are a few restrictions when it comes to it. You are only allowed to use a pistol while underwater, as your primary weapons will be locked. Also, hiding in the water and ambushing your enemies is a great way to take them down. To swim underwater, just use the sprint button while looking downwards into the water. Be careful, as spending too much time underwater will quickly deplete your oxygen, giving you blurred vision.
Besides attacking enemies, hiding in the water to get away from them is another tactical move you can implement. While it won’t always be a safe hiding spot, it will help to stay undetected for a while. There is also much waterborne transportation you can use, such as the Rigid Inflatable Boat and the Armored Patrol Boat. Each of these has its pros and cons, but both are great modes of transportation if you want to get away or take an offensive stance.
The underwater combat mechanic will also be available in Warzone 2, but the workings of the combat move are not clear. It won’t take much time to figure it out, since the release for Warzone 2 is just a few weeks away.
