Mario Strikers: Battle League is a soccer game that places emphasis on battling. While the game is based on the premise of soccer, there are many liberties that it takes to make the game more fun, and these include items and power-ups. This guide will take you through the process of how to get and use items and powerups in Mario Strikers: Battle League.
How to Use Items and Powerups in Mario Strikers: Battle League
Items can be used to get an edge over other players as they provide boosts that can be useful in battle. The goal is to win, after all, and players will take any opportunities that they can in order to achieve it. However, you will first need to know how to get these items and powerups and begin using them in order to make the most of the gameplay.

Once you begin playing a match, you will receive several boxes which are thrown onto the field from outside. These resemble blocks with a question mark on them, and if you get closer you will realize that they are floating in place, relatively stationary. You can collect them by walking or running through them.
The blocks are powerups, and these will be automatically added to your inventory once you have walked through them. As these have question marks, you will be given a random power-up from the list of boosts available:
- Banana Peel
- Bob-omb
- Green Shell
- Mushroom
- Power Star
- Red Shell
You can activate the power-up that you have picked up by pressing the X button. If it is a Consumable powerup, it will be applied to your character immediately, and if it is an Attack Powerup, a projectile will instantly shoot forwards. Note that you can hold up to three powerups at a time, and there is no cooldown to use them.
