The sawmill can be unlocked early in the game by following the main story quests. Once you have the sawmill at your base, you can feed it lumber and get planks in return. This in turn can be used as a crafting item. You can use planks as building upgrades, and upgrading the Sawmill will give you more refined materials.
How to Use the Sawmill
You can find and place the sawmill from your Castle building screen. Next, you will need to power it up to use it, by hooking it up to your Castle Heart. You can power up the Castle Heart by adding more Blood Essence, which in turn will power up all machinery, including the sawmill.
Now that the Sawmill is useable, you can interact with it to feed it some lumber to get wooden planks in return. You can check your recipe log of each machinery you have to see what materials are needed to make which object. Once you have the necessary materials, you can use them on the machinery and wait till the final product is ready.
How to Upgrade Sawmill
To upgrade your Sawmill, you will have to take a look at the three panels at the top of the Sawmill window after interacting with them. It will give you three objectives to fulfill. Once you have completed all the objectives, you will get a production boost and your Sawmill will be powered up.
