Tips to Play Cult of the Lamb for Beginners

Cult of the Lamb is part action roguelike and part base-building game. At the later stages of the game, you will spend quite some time farming resources and building your base. Here are some things to keep in mind as you progress through the game.

1. Choose the Right Difficulty

If you played the beta there was no option to change the difficulty and the game was set to medium difficulty as per the devs. The final release, however, allows you to switch the difficulty of Cult of the Lamb. Choose the difficulty depending on your proficiency in playing roguelikes. You can find the difficulty settings by going to the game Settings, then the Game tab and the first option is the Difficulty setting. There are four settings – Easy, Medium, Hard, and Very Hard.

2. Farm Fervour from Rooms with Training Dummy

Fervour is ammunition for your curses that deal a lot more damage than your melee attacks. The magic spells are also ranged which play a crucial role in boss fights. So, always ensure that you have full Fervour. There are many ways to farm Fervour in Cult of the Lamb, but none provide as much as you want risk-free than rooms with four training dummies. When you hit these dummies, they drop Fervour and enough to fully charge your spells several times. You can also trace your way back to these rooms to refill your curses again and again until they are destroyed. So, keep that in mind.

3. Don’t Overthink the Placement of Buildings

Don’t overthink the placements of building as you can move them later on. The way to do it is to bring up the build menu and when you select a building, you will be able to see the Edit Buildings button at the bottom of the screen, hit it and you will have a bunch of options to remove or move the building. So, you can rearrange the location of buildings on your base for better aesthetics later on in the game.

4. Use Dodge When Enemies Glow

At the beginning stages of the game, when enemies glow, they are about to attack. Use the Dodge button to evade the attack. On the PS5 controller, Circle is for dodge. If you are on PC, you can remap the buttons to your liking and the buttons that most suit you.

5. Don’t Take Damage in Mini or Main Boss Fights

When fighting a mini-boss or the main boss at a particular level, if you avoid taking any damage and you defeat the boss, the game rewards you with an increased loot of as much as 30%. So, you get 30% more of all the items that you acquire. This applies to all difficulty levels so choose carefully.

6. Fight NPC Rakshasa

You cannot fight most NPCs in the game, but when you come across Rakshasa – the NPC that provides food – incite him. You can hit the snail a few times and that will get him all riled up to avenge the insult of his love. He has a good amount of HP, but his moves are easy to read and the attacks can be evaded without much effort. When he loses and surrenders, he will give you a valuable blueprint.

7. Build Shrine and Collect Devine Inspiration to Unlock New Building at Base

The very first thing you build in your base in Cult of the Lamb is the cooking station to keep your followers feed. The second building that you can build is the Shrine. Building the Shrine is key to building everything else in the game. Once the shrine is built, your followers will worship it and fill the Devotion. The level of Devotion collected can be seen by the meter above the shrine or when you interact with it. You can collect Devotion and unlock Divine Inspiration. You can now unlock new buildings through the shrine. You can either assign your followers to perform tasks on the base or have them worship the shrine to generate Devine Inspiration. The first building that you can unlock and which costs the least Divine Inspiration is the Temple.

8. Attack Dodge When Equipped with Heavy Weapons

All weapons in Cult of the Lamb have three properties – Damage, Speed, and a Special ability such as healing the wielder with life force from the slain foe. But, there is another property that the game does not tell you about that’s range. Some weapons can only deal damage in close vicinity, while others can be swung to hit enemies at a bit further distance. The speed of the weapon is another very important factor. Heavier weapons such as the Bane Axe deals a lot of damage but comes at a cost of speed. When wielding such as sword, ensure that you hit the foes and then dodge as the gap between each swing can make you vulnerable to attacks.

9. Destroy Skeletons to Farm Bones

Bones are required for rituals and you require a lot of them, so farm and stock them. When you come across skeletons destroy them as they will provide you with bones.

10. Destroy Objects and Environment in NPC Rooms

NPC rooms provide good loot, so when you are there, destroy the objects and surroundings. You can get all kinds of stuff from Heart, Meat to just about any other resources in the game.
