Genshin Impact 4.0 Fontaine is finally out and even though underwater exploration is exciting and fresh, fans can’t help but mock the ridiculous underwater censorship move by Hoyoverse.
With Genshin Impact’s Fontaine release in Version 4.0, players finally have a long-teased underwater exploration feature. There were leaks about it as early as Version 1.1 and 1.2 but since Hoyoverse didn’t introduce it in Inazuma, most players thought that the idea had been scrapped. Only a few expectant fans hoped it would be introduced in Fontaine- the Nation of Hydro and Justice. And they were right.
As magical and dreamy underwater exploration in Genshin Impact is, fans still couldn’t help but notice the blatant and ridiculous censorship move by Hoyoverse. While it’s understandable for a Chinese company to implement censorship when they can, this move being introduced to the entire world is certainly a bad sign.
Hoyoverse Gives Bubble-Butt Censorship to Underwater Exploration in Genshin Impact 4.0 Fontaine
As you can see, the characters’ posteriors are covered by this rather apparent shaded stream of water. While this isn’t as noticeable when you’re moving around underwater, once you come to a standstill to look for things or just enjoy the visuals, this censorship ironically breaks the immersion- which is the whole point of underwater exploration in the first place.
Meanwhile, there is no form of censorship in the overworld- not when you’re climbing or even flying. It has never been an issue in the first place until Hoyoverse made it one in the underwater section of the game.
Maybe it’s because, in the overworld, camera angles viewing a character model’s posterior are rare occurrences and something that doesn’t come up in an ordinary playthrough. Players have to adjust their camera angles skillfully to see a character’s butt but in the underwater world, characters naturally have their butt exposed which was perhaps concerning to the developers. It’s still ridiculous and once you notice it, it’s hard to look away as it constantly keeps breaking your immersion.
