Matthews is one of the lost Rangers that Zoe asks Dylan to find in Control Resonant. It is not very difficult to find Matthews, but he would not disclose his identity at first. You’ll need to find the right FBC Ranger and choose the correct dialogue options to get him to reveal the truth.
Where to find Matthews for Zoe’s Quest
Zoe asks Dylan to help her locate the lost ranger, Matthews. The ranger will be seen in a usual manner as an FBC Ranger, but won’t give away his identity. In order to prove that he is indeed Matthews, a dialogue tree will have to be traversed.
Begin your search at the lower courtyard area of the FBC Field Office staging area. Locate the structure labelled SECURITY STATION 01. As the door to the place you need is situated on the upper level, take the external stairs and make your way up the stack of containers to get to the metal catwalk. From there, enter through the door.
After entering the building, follow the yellow arrows marked on the ground through the room containing the pool tables. Proceed further till you enter the kitchen and break room located towards the end. Your target ranger will be located near the refrigerator. He will be carrying a gun and will be the only NPC that can be questioned in the room.
The ranger initially denies everything, so you need to keep questioning him to get the truth. If you choose options like “Sorry for bothering you” or “I’ll leave you alone,” the conversation ends without confirming his identity.
Talk to FBC Ranger
Speak to the FBC Ranger who is holding an assault rifle and deny all his claims. As soon as “Are you sure?” pops up in the dialogue wheel, click on it to continue pressing him. Once you get the option of “You’re lying,” click on it to reveal him.
He will finally tell you that he did abandon his team. Matthews will finally say that he is Matthews. He will reveal that he lost his squad in the West Incursion Zone, and he left his post behind. After everything comes out from him, Matthews gets depressed and tells Dylan to leave him alone.
When Matthews confesses, leave the breakroom, and the phone call will automatically connect between Zoe and Dylan. She needs to find out whether the ranger is really Matthews. During the call, go through the staircase located outside and reach the upper office.
Once she asks you about his identity, answer by selecting “I think so” since you were successful in finding Matthews. If you do not want to end up in failure in the quest, you must avoid answering “It wasn’t him.”
You can then select “Will he be fired?” to get the answer from her. Zoe informs you that Matthews will be fired and takes you to another conversation on West Incursion Zone. Once this conversation ends, the Matthews part of the quest is complete, and Zoe gives Dylan the next lead.
