The quest Spread Your Wings in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon has an important point of choice with long-term repercussions. You must decide between helping a vengeful exile by the name of Vidar or joining a mysterious group called the Crows. This guide takes you through how to begin the quest, where it takes you, and what will happen at each decision.
Finding Vidar and Beginning the Quest

To start the quest, you’ll have to find Vidar, who is being held captive at the bandit camp southeast of Roscree. After crossing a bridge nearby, you’ll arrive at the camp, where some bandits stand guard over Vidar. He’s in a locked cage. Kill off the bandits and search a crate in the vicinity to discover the key that frees his prison.”.
After being released, Vidar informs that bandits were members of an association known as the Crows. He insinuates a more sinister purpose with his capture and invites you to meet him at Roscree village, which has been overrun. Accepting to follow him will formalize the Spread Your Wings quest.
The Standoff at Roscree
When you get to Roscree, Vidar will comment on the strange desolation of the town—just before members of the Crows appear. Their leader, Self, emerges and presents an entirely different account of the events. While Vidar accuses the Crows of having made his life miserable and wiping out his clan, Self condemns Vidar for killing his own family and insists they only want to bring him back among his people for justice.
There isn’t any clear-cut evidence for or against. It all depends on whom you believe and what type of part you wish to play in the unfolding drama.
Siding with Vidar

To aid Vidar leads to a fight with Self and some Crows. Vidar will fight alongside you, and he’s tough enough to take care of himself in combat. After killing the Crows, have another chat with Vidar. He’ll thank you and invite you to assist him further in his quest to purge the Crows’ influence from Avalon.
Taking this route opens up a questline that is all about rebellion and revenge. You can also loot the dead Crows for rewards, such as Self’s special armor set and branded skin that can be sold in exchange for a bounty.
This path allows you to act against a dominant faction and possibly restructure Avalon’s political stage, but it shuts off any chance of cooperating with the Crows.
Siding with the Crows
Delivering Vidar to the Crows sidesteps conflict altogether. Self will officially induct you into their membership, giving you the rank of Hatchling and a complete set of Crow armor. You’ll also be given your first mission, starting a new questline dealing with stealth operations and selective killings working towards keeping Avalon in balance.
This alignment puts you in the company of a group that works in the shadows, providing you with opportunities for stealth, influence, and political manipulation.
Which Side Should You Pick?

Your choice should depend on what kind of direction you want to take your character’s journey. If you find justice, autonomy, and disrupting an shadowy corporation appealing, Vidar’s path might be for you. If you prefer strategy, subtlety, and power of influence, the Crows provide a compelling option.
Vidar’s intentions are transparent but driven by revenge, and his actions might become increasingly sinister. The Crows, being manipulative as they are, purport to be acting for the greater good—but their goals and their methods are questionable.
There is no objectively correct response. Every decision results in distinct quests, rewards, and ramifications that cascade through Avalon’s world.
