In the twisted world of Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon, time is the unlock to the secrets hidden in the land. There is no place where this is more evident than in the Horns of the South, where the night unlocks events and potential that are entirely invisible during the day.

There is no quest symbol or blatant journal entry that indicates the “Secrets of the Night” experience. Instead, it is a natural progression of interactions and discoveries that are accessible only under the light of the moon. This guide will help you complete this eerie experience and reap its rewards.

Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon Fields of Light Walkthrough

How to Prepare for Nightfall

To begin your night adventure, ensure it is night. The game allows you to sleep through campfires or beds, and you can opt to wait until evening or late night. When the shadows cover the Horns of the South, the area undergoes a radical transformation. The Wyrd becomes thicker, vision constricts, and music shifts to a darker key, which indicates that secret content is accessible.

It’s a good idea to bring a light source, preferably a Wyrdlight lantern, or have Wyrdlight spells active. If you don’t, the darkness and the Wyrdness won’t only make everything around you impossible to see, but also severely weaken you. You’ll also want to make sure that your gear is repaired and stocked up—healing potions, stamina draughts, and even maybe Wyrd-resistance potions will be essential to making it through, as enemies become more aggressive and more frequent after nightfall.

Mysterious Rooftop Figure

You should head to the upper reaches of Horns Keep itself first. The rooftop garden seems to be deserted during the day—a peaceful overgrown space high above the courtyard. Come back at night, though, and one figure will be standing at the far end of the roof. This NPC, hooded and barely illuminated by the light of Wyrdlight, offers a brief but deeply cryptic exchange.

They may talk about the Wyrd nibbling at memories or the light of the Red Death on the horizon. Talking to them multiple times opens up snippets of backstory concerning Avalon’s decayed state, and sometimes triggers a new journal entry or even a mini-quest that leads you deeper into surrounding lost ruins. If you’ve gone far enough through the main story, they may also comment on your choices.

Chapel of Echoes: A Haunting Discovery

Southwest of the keep, hidden along the rotting edge of a cliff, lies an old chapel that appears totally abandoned by daylight.

However, if one visits at night, it is entirely another matter. As one approaches, strange lights flicker within the ruined chapel, and ghostly voices whisper prayers long forgotten. The door creaks open, giving way to no resistance. Inside, spectral figures gather—darkling remnants of a past congregation taken by the Wyrd. You are not assaulted, but you may observe them and engage with certain points of interest, such as an altar or old diary pages scattered across pews.

One of these is a tattered scripture that, if read, enhances your magical proficiency or grants a minor, permanent buff to Wyrd resistance. Others will provide hints toward stashes of hidden loot or the previous transgressions of the Red Priests that used to serve here. The zone also has some of the rarer alchemical ingredients such as Ghostcap Mushrooms and Wyrdsap, which are otherwise very uncommon.

Shoreline Ghost in the Fisherman’s Village

Head east from the keep, outside the outer defenses, until you reach the remnants of a small fishing village on the water.

The docks are still and empty during the day. But go at night, and you’ll hear whispering and splashing. A ghostly fisherman sits at the edge of the dock, casting a line into the dark waters. Speaking with him doesn’t initiate combat but instead presents a challenge—a very old tradition whereby you must “out-fish the dead.”

This triggers a mini-game where you attempt to catch spectral fish emitting gentle Wyrdlight. Patience and timing are needed to succeed. Finishing the challenge rewards you with a unique fishing rod named “Night’s Bite” that provides a higher likelihood of landing rare fish and can even help in future quests involving food rations or trading. If you lose or forfeit the challenge, the spirit will vanish at dawn, and you will need to return another night to attempt it again.
