The only way to farm Murky Energy Residue is by completing a few monster dungeons. The dungeons you need to look out for are in Sterile Lands. The Forgottense and Unknown Laboratory are two of the more popular dungeons where you can farm Murky Energy Residue. Besides that, completing the Something can be Improved quest can also give you a certain amount of Murky Energy Residue.
It is best to go to the Forgottense and complete that dungeon rather than Unknown Laboratory. The Unknown Laboratory’s elite boss only spawns after clearing the Vulgus Sensor objective, which can take longer and is more painstaking. Rather, go to the Forgottense and defeat all the initial enemies to get to the main boss of the dungeon. Kill the boss to farm Murky Energy Reside, then repeat the process
