Legends of Runeterra, developed by Riot Games, is a captivating digital card game that immerses players in the rich lore of the League of Legends universe. Set in the fantastical world of Runeterra, the game showcases the diverse champions and regions from the iconic multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA). Over the years, the constant patches and new content have made the game better and better. The patch 5.0 is aimed at that direction. We have the complete Legends of Runeterra Patch 5.0 Notes (3 January 2024).
Legends of Runeterra Patch 5.0 Notes (3 January 2024)
The update 5.0 is scheduled to go live at 11:00 am PT on 3rd January 2024. Here are the patch notes.
Gameplay System Updates
HEISHO, SHELL OF THE WORLD
OLD: 9c 9|9 Spell Shield
NEW: 10c 9|9 no Spellshield
Heisho released and was a Meta defining card, in order to enjoy a more diverse and wider spread Meta over the break we made the decision to pull the power level back on this game-ending titan.
Editor’s Note: This change was a part of the pre-worlds hotfix and we’ve included it in patch notes to document the change.
The following personalization items are available with this patch.
Similar to our last Coven Board, we’re going to be releasing the last Guardian we’ve had in production. While we don’t have plans in the near future to release any more Guardians, we hope you can enjoy the upcoming Friendly Faeling and its variant– the Festive Faeling.
This faeling is friend, not food.
Get festive with faeling and friends at the harvest festival!
Faeling and Friends
This bundle contains:
Ruined Gentleman Basilisk
Price is prorated for potential duplicates. We hope you enjoy this bundle of fan favorite Guardians offered at a 40% discount. The bundle will be available until the patch on March 27th, so snag it while it’s still available!
Competitive in 2024
Legends of Runeterra Competitive will take a slightly different shape this year. We’re generally happy with what we’ve been able to do with a small team in 2023 but we want to refine the system to make it more sustainable for the team as well as entertaining for the players.
The first open is happening on January 13th 2023, but this is purely a for-fun tournament. We won’t be offering prizes beyond Trophies and the Top 16 Board/Player Titles. You can think of this similar to our Beta season last year– it will allow us to fine tune everything before rolling it out. We’re aiming to introduce the new system to you all before the next Open in February. Rather than delaying our first Open we wanted to have a more casual event on the Worlds patch.
Your ranked finish and prime glories will matter this season in the new system once it is fully rolled out and announced. So have some fun for now, but don’t rest on your laurels too long, or the competitive season will be moving on before you know it!
Mystery Event AKA “LoR Invitational”
For those who watched Worlds our executive producer provided a slight update on this, but we want to share it here as well!
We’ve mentioned experiments and this is one of them! We’ve sent out the invites to the event and it’s going to take place on the Riot Campus towards the end of January. We’ve decided to use this as a time to really sit down and have a dev-to-players talk in a more casual setting.
At the event we’ll share some ideas for the game and what we’re working on. We’ll have a casual tournament (to be played on an unreleased build) for the players we bring out that will include some cool prizes. With that said, we want to maintain hype around these cards and keep the reveals exciting so we won’t be streaming the event, but I’m sure some of the creators who attend will be putting out content around their trip!
Before you ask if we’re going to do this again– we want to see how this one works out first!
File Size Increase
Over the next 3 patches there will be roughly ~450MB extra data included in the LoR client each patch. We’re updating some software on the back-end and wanted to give players the heads up that the file size will increase a little. After patch 5.2 the transition will be completed and the file size will return to normal.
- Fixed an issue where Heisho, Shell of the World’s ability would still reduce card cost after being removed.
- Fixed an issue where Mihira, Aspect Ascendant could soft lock the game with Sigil of the Storm and Sinner’s Vise.
- Fixed an issue where Enraged Firespitter’s skill would not trigger if no enemy units are in play.
