The first thing that you will need to do if you want to learn how to use STAB effectively in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is to understand what it means. STAB is short for Same Type Attack Bonus, and it helps to increase the power of a Pokemon’s move if used by a Pokemon of the same type.

This means that when a Pokemon uses a move with a type that matches its own, it will deal 1.5x the normal amount of damage with that move. This is known as the STAB, which is a bonus. You should ensure that your Pokemon have at least 1 STAB move in your team.

Below, you will find a list of all the fixed damage moves that do not get any STAB boosts, so make sure to avoid them.

  • Counter – Fighting Type
  • Endeavor – Normal Type
  • Metal Burst – Steel Type
  • Mirror Coat – Psychic Type
  • Night Shade – Ghost Type
  • Super Fang – Normal Type
  • Nature’s Madness – Fairy Type

Note that if your Pokemon has the Ability Adaptability, you will get a 2x STAB Boost instead of 1.5x. This Adaptability is available for the Pokemon Eevee, who is a Normal-type Pokemon.
