To get the Gate Key and continue your journey through the West Side of South Vale in Silent Hill 2, you need to open the safe in Jack’s Inn, which requires solving some maths equations. In this guide, we’ll show you how to find the safe code for Jacks Inn. You’ll come across Jacks Inn soon after your first meeting with Maria.
How to Open the Safe in Jacks Inn
After walking through Rosewater Park, head onto Nathan Avenue, and you’ll see Jacks Inn directly across the street. Once you enter the open courtyard, check the office on the left side to find the Safe. James will mark it on his map, and now it’s time to figure out the code.
The Reception Desk Note mentions someone staying in Room 107 which is located on the second floor of the motel. Room 107 is locked, so you’ll need to go into the room next to it instead. Inside, you can grab a Health Drink and some Handgun Ammo. Then you can smash through the wall to get into Room 107. There, you’ll find another box of Handgun Ammo and a note that gives you a hint rather than just giving you the code for unlocking the safe at the reception area. It presents a few simple maths problems for you to solve. Go back to the office and take a close look at the Memo.

After considering the necessary additions and subtractions, the Safe code you’ll need is 0451 on the ‘Standard’ puzzle difficulty. Entering it will give you the Gate Key.
On ‘Hard’ puzzle difficulty, figuring out the code is much tougher since the hints are less obvious. Breaking the information down into math formulas results in:

16 × 33 = 528
528 + 5 = 533
Notice that the document doesn’t mention a ‘0’ at all. The only hint indicating that you need to add ‘0’ at the beginning of the code to get 0533 is the ‘XXXX’ noted on the back of the Toolbox Memo, suggesting it’s a four-digit code. Just keep in mind that as soon as you pick it up, Maria will start getting attacked, so act fast to save her.
