The bears are strong opponents to fight in Valheim, more so at the early stages of gameplay. These creatures are quite healthy and capable of causing a lot of damage. Nevertheless, they are worth the trouble because they yield resources used for crafting the Bear Armour Set. In this guide, we will tell you where to find bears, how to defeat them safely, and what you need to craft their armour.
How to Find Bears
You can normally spot them in the outskirts of the Black Forest and Meadows biomes. They are significantly more powerful than the boars in the Meadows biome, so you have to take care while hunting them down. Bears do not spawn very often, and you will most commonly find them near the border between the Black Forest and Meadows. However, they can sometimes appear deeper inside the Black Forest as well.
How to Defeat Bears
First thing to note here is that Bears are resistant to any pierce damage, but can be easily defeated using fire and slashing damage. With that in mind, there is a hack to trap a bear and kill it quickly.
Find a fairly flat area and place your Workbench nearby. Next, you should lure the animal into the designated area and start building the walls all around it so that it will be trapped inside the cage. It is possible that you will have to reposition the walls several times since the bear will try to escape.
Now, once the bear is trapped in the area, you should put the Campfire there to damage it further. Since the Campfire will take some hits before breaking, you will have to keep repairing it. There is only one way to fight the bear effectively – by using fire damage. Using a torch will set the bears on fire and make them panic. This gives you an opening to attack while they are trying to flee.
You could also own several fire arrows and shoot at a bear from a distance. This is a much safer approach than facing the bear and trying to trap it, but since bears are resistant to pierce damage, it could take several arrows to bring it down. This option should be used if you are in a pinch and don’t have any other way to kill it.

If you kill a bear, you can get many items like:

- Bear Paws
- Bear Trophy
These items are used to make the Bear Armour Set, which contains three parts. Each part requires various resources.
Headdress of the Bear
To craft the Headdress of the Bear, you need:
- 5x Bear Hide
- 1x Bear Trophy
Patterns of the Bear
To craft the Patterns of the Bear, you need:
- 5x Bear Hide
- 2x Bear Paws
- 4x Blueberries
Loincloth of the Bear
To craft the Loincloth of the Bear, you need:
- 5x Bear Hide
- 4x Blueberries
Paws of the Bear
To craft the Paws of the Bear, you need:
- 2x Bear Hides
- 2x Bear Paws
- 4x Leather Scraps
Wearing any three pieces activates the Berserk set passive. It will boost your health and stamina regeneration while increasing your Slash and Chop damage. Nevertheless, the Berserk set also makes you somewhat susceptible to Blunt, Slash, and Pierce damage. The Berserk passive grants:
- +30% Health Regen
- +15% Stamina Regen
- +10% Slash Damage and Chop Damage
- Slight weakness increase to Blunt, Slashing, and Piercing damage
