To obtain the hearts of three Golems located throughout the Orc Territory before reaching Xardas in Gothic 1 Remake, you must eliminate the Golem monsters. Each Golem has a weakness that you can exploit to simplify the battle, especially if you’re playing as a mage. Below are the locations of all three Golems as well as the strategies for defeating them.

Entering the Orc Territory

Once Gomez betrays the Fire Mages your objective will be to find Xardas, but before you leave, you must prepare for fighting the Golems. Golems can only be damaged with blunt weapons, therefore they cannot be damaged with swords or anything with an edge. So to go find Xardas you must have a mace or hammer equipped, if you do not have that you can purchase one from Sharky at the New Camp.

You can also ease the fights against the Golems if you find Cronos at the New Camp and purchase the Fireball and Ice Ball scrolls. If you are a mage and do not have the Summon Skeleton scroll before going to see Shorty, you may want to purchase the Shadow Beast Transformation scroll which will cost you 50 Mana and will work well against the Stone Golem.

How to Defeat All Golems

Here’s how you can find and beat all Golems to get their Golem Hearts:

Stone Golem Location

Use the southern gate of the Old Camp and head towards the Orc Territory using the shorter mountain pass. You will encounter many Orcs, Razors, Orc Hounds, and other dangerous enemies, so be careful on your journey through this area.

Keep going until you reach a large expanse of sand where you can see Xardas’ Tower in the distance. You will want to turn left and climb the hill to locate the first golem. The Stone Golem stands alone on top of the hillside, looking over.

How to Beat the Stone Golem

For those that are building a strength-based character, you can simply equip a blunt weapon like a hammer or mace and beat the Golem until dead. For mages that have the Summon Skeleton spell from the Temple of Innos quest, this is a great time to use it. The Skeleton is equipped with a mace and can defeat the Golem by itself.

Another option for mages is to use the Shadow Beast Transformation scroll. Once transformed into the Shadow Beast you need to enter into combat by pressing 1, you will need to target the Golem and begin to use your charge attack continuously by pressing Q (or your Attack 3 key if you changed your controls) until you defeat the Golem. After the battle is won you will receive the Stone Golem Heart as loot.

Ice Golem Location

From the Stone Golem, proceed straight ahead and take the path on your right that goes up into the mountains. This path can be hard to find, so be alert. Continue onto the snowy section while sticking to the main trail. At the end of this part of the trail, you will discover an icy cave with an Ice Golem inside.

How to Beat the Ice Golem

Although you can use other blunt weapons to defeat the Ice Golem, using a Fireball will be much quicker if cast after charging it for maximum damage and will help end the fight quickly as well. Don’t forget to loot the Ice Golem’s Heart after you’re done with the battle.

Fire Golem Location

Make your way back to the crossroads in front of the Stone Golem, and go left towards Xardas Tower, but do not go in. Cross over the bridge towards the Lava area instead. Continue on the path as it winds upward through the volcano until you find the Fire Golem.

How to Beat the Fire Golem

Just like the other Golems, he can be killed with a blunt weapon; however, using an Ice Ball scroll is a much faster option. Charge the spell and cast it until the Fire Golem is defeated. Collect the Fire Golem Heart before leaving.

Remember: All golems use powerful area-of-effect and melee attacks, so learning their patterns is the key to winning. Dodge sideways when they raise a leg or arm for a ground slam, and evade in the opposite direction of their melee swings. Stay patient, circle the golem, and only counterattack after it finishes its attack combo.

Go to the Tower of Xardas

Once you have acquired all three hearts of the Golems, you can enter the Tower of Xardas. Inside, approach the Necromancer’s Demon who stands at the left and give him the three hearts. After that you can proceed to speak with Xardas and obtain a teleport rune, thereby putting you back onto your primary objective of continuing with the main story.
