Defeating Jing Ye in Phantom Blade Zero can be challenging because of his hard-hitting attacks. In this guide, we have covered everything you’ll need to know for easily defeating the boss and making the fight easier for you. From preparing yourself for the fight to dealing with his dangerous attacks, everything is covered here.
How to Beat Jing Ye

Upgrade your axe to level 5 before combat in order to gain access to its first weapon skill. With the axe skill, you will be able to make a full strong attack by using the button only twice, thus breaking the shield of Jing Ye.
There is an additional option of unlocking the ability that shortens the weapon-switching time by 2 seconds. This will allow for a quicker recovery of Shachi after depleting it, but these enhancements are optional.
Phase 1: Horseback Fight
In phase one, Jing Ye engages in battle on horseback. Make sure to press the guard button when you attack so that you inflict damage while blocking his attacks. Be sure to monitor your Shachi during the fight because guarding and blocking take a toll on it. Change weapons before you run out of Shachi.
When his Shachi runs out, your attacks will stop him in his tracks. Use weak attacks for this opportunity because they are quicker and do not consume Shachi. Do not hold the guard button while he is staggered so that you preserve your Shachi.
Phase 2: Fight on Foot
The moment Jing Ye steps down from his horse, the color of his Shachi gauge changes to sky blue, suggesting he has acquired a protective shield. Use your axe to smash this shield, which can normally be done with two fully loaded strikes. Ensure that Jing Ye is facing you with his shield before hitting, as striking from behind won’t be effective at breaking it.
After the shield smashes, his Shachi gauge reactivates, enabling you to attack him again. Keep on defending while landing hits, but bear in mind that he uses a lot more Shachi than before. Use different arms frequently or move out of his range, to regain your Shachi meter and wait for cooldown.
Attacks to Watch Out For

- Ranged Projectiles: Jing Ye launches several projectiles that can quickly build up bleeding. Dodge sideways or forward through them instead of relying on your guard. Keep guarding while dodging to block any projectiles you fail to avoid.
- Sand Attack: This attack blocks your screen and makes incoming attacks difficult to see. Keep your guard up to protect yourself from surprise hits.
- Blue Flash Attacks: These attacks come out quickly and can punish mistimed parries. It is safer to dodge away rather than attempt to parry them. Listen for their distinct sound to recognize them.
