While browsing Reddit, you would have noticed several users owning or giving away Karma points. There is no clear explanation on how Karma is earned or calculated, or what they do. But if you check out several user’s profiles, you will notice a Karma system under each of them. If you are wondering how Karma is calculated and how to get more Karma on Reddit, this quick guide covers how to calculate Karma on Reddit

How is Reddit Karma Calculated

In short, to earn Karma you need to be actively involved within the community. This means leaving comments and providing posts that will increase your engagement level with several of the community members. You can get Karma if your comment or post has made an impact with the community, leading them to vote on said comment or post. Having upvotes will give you positive Karma, while downvotes will offer negative Karma. The more upvotes you get, the higher your Karma will go. You can also give Karma points to other users by voting on their comments and posts.

According to the official Reddit FAQ, Karma is not calculated on a 1:1 ratio. So calculating Karma based on the amount of upvotes received is not an accurate representation on how much Karma you can earn. New Reddit users would find that the upvotes they earn accurately depicts their current Karma. But as they increase their interaction within the various communities and start earning upvotes on a large scale, this formula will start getting a bit flawed.

To brief it  up, there is no fixed rule on how you can calculate Karma on Reddit. But as you keep your activity levels high within the platform, you won’t have any problems getting Karma. Since Karma is a permanent reflection on your profile, it is best to stay on the good side of Reddit. Earning positive Karma points will make you a trustworthy member of the community as opposed to users having negative Karma. So just be good and you can get the Karma you need.
