Fighting for democracy and extermination of the bugs in Helldivers 2 is no fun if you can’t do it with your friends. The recent patch for the game has created all kinds of problems for players on all platforms as they cannot join friends. The Steam and Reddit community is filled with reports of Social Tab not working in the game. The crux of the issue is that the new friends added after the patch do not appear in the friend list. Here is all you need to know about the issue and if you can fix it.
Before you proceed with the fixes, note that there is a problem on the game’s end and thousands of players have these problems. If you still want to try, these are the solutions that have helped others.
Leave the Social Window Open for a Few Minutes
If you have added friends and they are not showing in the social tab, the first thing you should do is open the social window and wait for a few minutes for the friend list to populate. There may be some glitch that may be preventing the friends from appearing on the list instantly.
Make Steam Friend List Public
If the above fix fails to be of help, the next thing you should try is to make the Steam Friend List public. This fix has helped a few users, so it’s worth the shot. You have three options to show the Steam Friend List. You can set it to Private, Friends Only, and Public. The Social Tab started working for players who set the Friend List Public. Here is how you can do it.
- Open Steam in a browser and click on the Profile Image
- Click on Edit Profile under Level
- Go to Privacy Settings and Friend List
- Set it to Public

Turn on Crossplay
This may be a long shot, but your issue may be that Crossplay is turned off. Several players have reported that turning the crossplay on fixes the issue for them.
