Before you get a chance to unlock the gate, you need to complete the quest prior to A Trial of Archery and also go through the Trial of Archery quest. That means you need to complete Gift of the Bow prior to this quest. You can unlock both these quests from Glyndwr in Vernworth’s Roderick’s Smithy. You should have the Sacred Arbor area unlocked by now, as this will give you access to the Ancestral Chamber. From the Sacred Arbor, head southeast to find the Ancestral Chamber. Now, once you explore the depths, you will find a gated door.
To unlock this door, complete the Trials of Archery quest then visit the Sacred Arbor at night. Make your way to the area where you found a chest with the Eminent Cloak. There is a flight of stairs nearby that leads down. Go down there, turn right to find a small cave entrance, and wait near the gate. This will trigger some skeletons to appear on the other side of the gate. They will end up breaking the gate, and you can defeat them then explore the rest of the area beyond the gate
