Before you can enter Vernworth Vault, you need the Makeshift Vault Key item. To get it, make your way to the Ancient Battlefield location and head up the castle there. If this is your first time here, then you might find an NPC who will trigger the quest Tolled To Rest. Pick up this quest and follow the quest marker inside the castle. There is a secret room containing the Nation’s Death Kneel Grimoire. Also in this room is a chest containing the Makeshift Vault Key.
Now make your way to Vernworth Castle without your Pawns and enter through the Fountain Garden entrance. There is a flower arch that leads to the main door, so go through the double doors and you will face the dining hall. Turn left and enter the small door on the wall that leads to the kitchen. Once you enter the kitchen you will find another door that leads to a flight of stairs down to the basement. If you go further down, you will reach the Vault entrance. But right now it is guarded by a singular guard, and there are a few ways to take her down.
- Grab a barrel from the kitchen then toss it at the guard to alert her. Once she starts running towards you, pick her up and carry her to the kitchen and set her down. Quickly enter through the basement door so she loses her line of sight, then head down and unlock the vault to start raiding
- Attack the guard using a vocation that utilizes ranged attacks, then enter the vault. Once you are done, you can revive her using a Wakestone
