Luckily, the game will feature local couch co-op and online multiplayer. You can add up to four players while playing on online and local servers, and the minimum players added to a server are two. You can host a server and invite friends via a code, or get invited to a server the same way. There is no option for combination co-op, so you either have to pick playing with your friends locally or online
As for crossplay, Risk of Rain Returns does not support cross play across platforms for now. Having multiplayer tweaked in the latest game would take up a large chunk of resources, so it makes sense why the devs won’t implement crossplay for now. Hopefully in future titles there will be a crossplay option to play along with friends across systems.
