You get to travel to the Dagon Shrine once you’ve become a member of the Blades. The very next quest you get is to enter the Mythic Dawn and retrieve the Mysterium Xarxes, and the interesting part is that there are several ways to complete this quest. This guide will focus on all the possible ways to get over the Dagon Shrine quest in Oblivion Remastered.
You have to traverse to the Lake Arrius Caverns to start this quest, which can be found on the northern side of Cheydinhal, easily found on your map. You can fast travel to the city of Cheydinhal or any nearby regions. You can cover the rest of the distance on foot and reach the Lake Arrius Caverns.
Dagon Shrine Location
Before starting with the question, the location of the Dagon Shrine in Oblivion Remastered is in the Lake Arrius Caverns. This place can be found towards the northern side of Cheydinhal and the western side of Imperial City. There is no option to fast travel directly to the location, so your best course of action would be to fast travel to any nearby location, preferably the city of Cheydinhal.
Head north from the Black Waterside Stables outside of Cheydinhal to reach the Lake Arrius Caverns. From this place, you just need to trek a little and enter the caverns using wooden doors. Move deeper into the place until you find a door that is flanked by a pair of red Mythic Dawn banners.
Dagon Shrine Quest Walkthrough in Oblivion Remastered
Your only objective inside this shrine is to get back the Amulet of Kings. Now, there is more than a single way to deal with this quest.
- One method involves convincing the disciples that you are genuinely interested in joining the Mythic Dawn cult.
- Another approach is rather violent and involves breaking down the door and taking care of everyone inside.
However, the first method is better because a lot of cultists are inside the shrine, the probability of you getting overpowered easily is high. You shouldn’t opt for the second method unless your character has relatively high levels and won’t break a sweat bashing them up at once.
Walkthrough 1
You’ll need to interact with the Doorkeeper once you enter the cave and talk to Harrow. You’ll have to hand over your belongings and gold to him, after which he’ll lead you into a shady sacrificial chamber. Mankar Camoran will be giving a speech, after which they will be invited to join the Mythic Dawn.
You need to kill the prisoner Jeelius, which will make you an acolyte of the Mythic Dawn. This will result in the worshippers leaving the place slowly, making it easier for you to escape. However, if you choose to show mercy on Jeelius, the cultists will attack you and the prisoner. It can be difficult to protect him due to his insanely quick movements. Instead, you can choose another way where you agree to kill Jeelius but wipe out all the cultists before he opens his eyes.
Walkthrough 2
You can simply storm in the cave, start killing everyone that comes in your way, but you need to have a well-thought-out strategy before dealing with the enemies. You might start with the Doorman because you’ll refuse to hand over your inventory, leading to a dispute, and this will compromise your cover and expose your stealthy approach.
Since you’re not being escorted, an opportunity to loot a part of the cave which contains multiple chests becomes accessible for you. Once you reach the ritual chamber, wait for the speech to get over and for Camoran to leave. If you’ve stealth or invisibility, then none of the cultists will notice you, so you can play the patience game and finally kill Ruma Camoran, taking the book and finishing the quest.
Rewards for Saving Jeelius
You’ll have to wake Jeelius up regardless of your approach towards this quest in Oblivion Remastered before taking the Mysterium Xarxes in order to save him. The statue of Dagon will start to break once you take the book, and Jeelius will be crushed under it if he is still on the sacrificial platform. If you help Jeelius to make it out of this ordeal alive, then you receive +1 to Alchemy, Restoration and Mysticism skills when visiting him in the Temple of the One in the Imperial City.
Please speak with him twice to claim your reward. Another thing about this quest is that no matter how you choose to complete the quest, Mankar Camoran will escape through a portal to his Paradise. A sealed gate will open once you pick up the book, specifically a gate to the north, which can be used as an escape route. After you take the book, return to the Cloud Ruler Temple.
After Completing the Dagon Shrine Quest
The Oblivion Crisis becomes worse once you have completed the quest, and the probability of a random Oblivion Gate spawning increases significantly. The number of possible random gates increases to 50 from 25, and the chance of a gate opening when you enter its cell increases to 50% from 25%.
- Each city has a fixed gate, except for Kvatch and Imperial City, meaning seven fixed gates are open. These will be essential elements for the “Allies for Bruma” quest, and if you ask a character about their city, they’ll mention the presence of an Oblivion Gate outside.
- There is a non-journal quest, “Attack on Fort Sutch,” which features a fixed gate opening near Fort Sutch.
- There are two gates which you won’t be able to access even after this quest, since they’re quest-related gates. These gates are outside Bruma: the Bruma Gate and the Great Gate.
