Genshin Impact, at the end of the day, is a gacha game. Gacha games are generally frowned upon for their unethical or questionable business strategies. Popular gacha games like FGO or Genshin Impact have even been known to get players addicted to gambling.
A game like Genshin Impact with such a high standard of quality in every aspect has to make money somehow since their game is free and available on multiple platforms. In that regard, compared to other gachas, Genshin’s gacha system isn’t too bad. In this article, we’ll tell you which is the better offer and for whom.
Battle Pass and Welkin Moon Explained
The Battle Pass is a system of getting players to play the game daily, completing missions and getting tons of rewards and special gear in return.
Genshin’s BP system has a free version, a reasonably paid version and a premium version. The rewards for each of these versions are cumulative- which means they include the rewards of the previous tier. The rewards include Aquaint Fates, Primogems, Hero’s Wit XP books, Mora, Mystic Enhancement Ore, regions talent books and finally some Fragile Resin.
The paid version allows you to choose one of the 5 BP weapons which are all CRIT RATE stat-sticks. These are powerful weapons which are the best-in-slot 4-star options for many DPS or sub-dps units in the game. The premium version lets you have an additional limited edition teapot furnishing, more fragile resin and finally a fancy name card indicating the current BP season.
The Welkin Moon is an even cheaper option solely for earning Primogems which are needed for pulling characters and weapons. It’s a Daily Log-in system where each day you get 90 Primogems just by logging in. If you don’t log in one day, you face a loss for losing out on all the bonus primogems. The Welkin also gives you 300 Genesis Crystals which can be stored up and saved for buying character outfits or can be exchanged for an equal amount of Primogems.
Players have often wondered which is the better offer. The ton of primogems Welkin allows you to get for free just by logging in every day for 30 days or the Battle Pass which urges you to play the game and complete missions for a couple of primogems and pulls along with a whole lot of in-game resources which are very valuable.
Which Should You Buy
In general the Welkin Moon is a better offer because it allows you to have almost 80 pulls provided you log in daily, convert your 300 Genesis Crystals to primogems and do your Daily Commissions and other limited time events every patch. Since the 75th pull earns you soft pity, most players usually get a 5-star within 80 pulls- beyond which is hard pity.
With a Welkin Moon, low spenders can guarantee a 5-star every patch provided they also do their dailies and events. Since the Welkin costs only about $5, it is the best place to spend money for low spenders.
The Battle Pass premium is not worth the $20 and it and should only be reserved if you have tons of money to spare. The normal paid battle pass or as it’s called in-game- the Gnostic Hymn costs about $10 and should only be considered under the following circumstances:
- You are a consistent dedicated player who logs in and does the dailies and weeklies every week.
- There are no immediate characters (rerun or new) you want to pull.
- You’re low on resources and need to replenish your stocks for building a character.
- You want one of the BP weapons or their refinements to better your account.
Apart from the first one which is necessary to max out your BP to Max Level 50, the rest are conditionals and if you happen to fall within those categories, you can consider buying the BP over the Welkin.
Compared to other gacha games, Genshin’s Battle Pass system is actually generous as each level has some rewards. F2P players can enjoy the free Battle Pass without paying anything and it’s still a decent source of income and resources. Even the Welkin Moon is worth the price considering the rewards. If there’s a future character you want to pull for, try to get two Welkins at least 2 months prior their speculated launch or rerun- this way you can guarantee to pull them even if you lose the 50/50.
