While exploring the rat-infested areas of A Plague Tale: Requiem, you will find foes who will try to kill you. But occasionally, you can find some allies during your dark times as well. One of the strange encounters you will come across is when escorting Arnaud to the exit after getting trapped in a rat-infested nest in Chapter 7: Felons. In Chapter 7, as you make your way across the thin ledge of the cave wall, Arnaud will fall through and the rats are out to get him. As soon as he falls, follow his movement to the place where he will be seeking refuge, there is an unlit torch here. Use the Ignifer pot to quickly give Arnaud some light. While this is only temporary, he still needs to get out of there.
Behind Arnaud are some yellow crystals called Episanguis, which can be used to craft Odoris. Crafting and using Odoris will attract all the rats to that point, giving a clear exit for Arnaud. You should ask him to toss you the yellow crystal, then hold down the Shift key (PC)/ LB (Xbox)/ L1 (PS), and then press the E key (PC)/ Y (Xbox)/ ▲ (PS) to grab it.
Craft the Odoris and use the sling to toss it into a shallow pit near where Arnaud is standing. This will attract all the rats around the vicinity, leaving him free to move out of there.
He will then venture to the left side where the crank is, and he will pull up a wooden board. Use your crossbow and equip it with an arrow laced with Odoris, then hit the board with it. After that, you should tell Arnaud to let go of the crank, and the board will fall into the pit, taking the rats with it.
After that, head left to meet up with Arnaud. You will also notice that the rats will appear on the other side where the exit is. This time, equip your crossbow with a flaming arrow and shoot Arnaud’s wooden shield with it. This will act as a makeshift torch, keeping the rats at bay as you make your way out the cave.
