To start, you are required to pick up an explosive like C4, PETN, or TNT. Any of these will work. You can find most of them by scavenging, so you should have a bunch in your inventory by now. Next, you’ll need to get the Remote Detonator item. They can be found on Ernie Island, but you need to scavenge to find them. You can check the fort section or the entire island to locate it.

Now that you have the Remote Detonator and an explosive, head into your inventory. Drag the explosive and drop it onto the Remote Detonator to start the combining process. You need high mechanical and explosive stats for Barry to combine these two items. It would help if both stats were above 50. After the crafting process is complete, place the remote explosive in the weapon slot of your merc. To use it, select the explosive and throw it, then use the remote in your inventory to detonate it.
