To unlock the Heatwave ability, head into your Abilities menu and select the Phoenix Eikon ability. You can find it above the Flames of Rebirth. Once you have selected it, you need to have 120 AP to unlock Heatwave. There are several ways to grind for AP in FFXVI, so you can come back to the ability menu once you have gathered enough. If you haven’t unlocked Phoenix abilities yet, then you need to complete the Sunrise, Sunset main story quest

Now, you need to assign the skill to your Gear and Icons menu. If you have any abilities equipped here, you need to swap them out for Heatwave. To use the ability, you need to hold the R2 + Assigned Key. This ability can also be upgraded, but you will need a total of 1620 AP to upgrade it to Mastery level. This will help unlock a shockwave while using Heatwave and also allows the ability assignment to any Eikon.

Heatwave is great at countering incoming projectiles. Just before a projectile hits Clive, use Heatwave to deflect it and grant immunity to Clive. Using Heatwave twice will grant you a bronze trophy called Packing Heat
