Dev errors have been a staple in the last several COD games to highlight various issues on the server or the user end. With the launch of the MW2 campaign, PS5 users have been reporting the Modern Warfare 2 dev error 253. This error appears while trying to complete a mission or playing the game. When the error occurs, the game crashes, and you get the error. The error has been mainly reported on the PS5 when you try to complete the Alone mission. If you are getting the error, here is what you need to do.
Modern Warfare 2 Dev Error 253 on PS5 Fix
The dev error 253 on PS5 occurs when you are in the Alone mission and need to meet Ghost at the church gate. As soon as you reach the church gate, the game crashes, and you get this error.
COD Japan has acknowledged the issue in a Tweet, so there will be a patch coming soon to fix the issue, but until then, there is something you can do to fix the issue. They said, “We are aware of the “DevError253″ error that only occurs on PS5, and are working on it. We apologize for the inconvenience, but please wait for a while.”
To fix the dev error 253, you must restart the entire mission. I know Alone is the most extended mission in the game, and it will be a pain to restart. I finished the Alone mission without dying, which took me close to an hour, so I understand your hesitation in restarting, but there is no other way.
When you restart the mission, choose either the Recruit or Regular difficulty, any other difficulty, and you will get the error. The prison break bug also has the same fix. For some reason, the game is buggier with greater difficulty.
So, the fix is simple if you want to go for it. Restart the Alone mission and choose Regular or lower difficulty, and you should be able to bypass the dev error 253 and prevent the game from crashing.
That’s all we have in this guide; we will update the post when we have more info or if the devs release a patch addressing the issue.
