With the release of a new season, players are complaining of the Apex Legends Not Updating or Update Loop. There is a range of different issues players are facing with updating the game. For some, the update is stuck at preparing, updates not downloading, or the endless update loop. Fortunately, the fixes for all these issues are the same. But, you have to try a bunch of solutions before you can resolve the error. So, stick around and we will help you sort out the issue.
Apex Legends | How to Fix Not Updating, Update Loop, and Download Stuck
Although there are several fixes you can try to resolve the error, repairing the game files seems to be the most effective in resolving the error. So, you can try that first or start with the first.
Fix 1: Deleting Temporary Data files
Deleting data files is a solution recommended by EA, so this should be the first you should try. However, a lot of users have found it ineffective. But, it may work in your case, so try it. TO perform the steps, you have to launch Command Prompt in admin mode. Here are the steps you can follow.
- Press Windows Key + R and type cmd, hit Shift + Ctrl + Enter
- Confirm with Yes to launch Command Prompt in admin mode
- Type the command del c:\windows\syswow64\config\systemprofile\appdata\roaming\origin\telemetry\data and hit Enter
- Type the command del c:\users\username\appdata\roaming\origin\telemetry\data and hit Enter
Close the command prompt and try to run the update check if the Apex Legends not updating, update loop, and update stuck on preparation should be fixed.
Fix 2: Repair Games Files
Corrupt game files can prevent the game from updating or cause issues downloading. Therefore, you must first attempt to repair the game files via the Repair option in Origin. Remember though, the repair option won’t be visible until you cancel the update. So, terminate the download before performing repair. Here are the steps.
- Launch Origin and go to My Game Library
- Right-click on Apex Legends and click on Repair
- Follow the instructions on the screen and the game will be repaired.
Repairing the game will probably resolve any update issue with the game. Once the repair is complete, proceed to update the game via the same menu and the Apex Legends not updating or the update loop will be fixed.
Fix 3: Ensure the Updates are Open for Download
A lot of players were checking for the update even before it actually becomes available and hence were seeing no update for Apex Legends. If you are one of them, ensure the updates are available for your region before attempting to update the game.
Fix 4: Turn Off UAC
Sometimes the User Account Settings on Windows can prevent a game from downloading or updating. Therefore, turn off the UAC, restart the system, and attempt to update the game. Here are the steps:
- Search for UAC in the Windows Search
- Drag the slider to the bottom and click Ok.
Now, restart the system and attempt to update Apex Legends.
Fix 5: Run Origin as Admin
Quite a lot of problems in games arise due to a lack of admin permission to the launcher. By default, Windows does not provide any application with admin permission, you have to do it manually. To perform the process, you need to right-click on the desktop shortcut of Origin > select Properties > go to the Compatibility tab > check the box Run this program as an administrator. Now, launch the Origin client and attempt to repair the game. Once the repair is complete, try to run the update.
Fix 6: Disable Origin Client Service
Before you attempt to disable the services, you must first ensure that the Origin client is completely closed. Check that it’s not running from the Task Manager. Once the program is closed, follow the below steps:
- Press Windows Key + R and type services.msc
- Locate OriginClientService from the list
- Right-click on the service and select Properties
- Expand Startup type and select Disabled
- Launch Origin and update Apex Legends.
Once the update is complete, revert the OriginClientService Startup type to Automatic.
The most effective fix for Apex Legends not downloading is to repair the game as confirmed by users. However, the above solutions should resolve the Apex Legends not downloading, update loop, update stuck on preparing, and the update won’t download.
