V RIsing, the open-world vampire survival game, is finally out as of 17th May 2022. The launch has been smooth, mostly, but several gamers are reporting startup issues. The game would not start or launch for them at all, making it very frustrating. Thus, in this article, we will go over how to fix this issue.
How to Fix V Rising Crashing on Startup?
Although Stunlock Studios is yet to address the problem, several users online have reported a bunch of fixes that have worked for them. We will go over these fixes.
1. Check the System Requirements for V Rising
For the minimum system requirements, Stunlock Studios lists at least an Intel Core i5-6600 or an AMD Ryzen 5 1500X coupled with a GTX 750 Ti or an AMD R7 360 and 12GB of RAM. These specs are not too demanding for 2022, and thus we consider the game easy to run.
The game also requires an active broadband internet connection and at least DirectX Version 11. To check your current DirectX version, follow the steps below.
- Type Windows+S and open up Search.
- Type Run in the Search text box. Hit enter.
- In the Run window, type dxdiag. Hit enter.
- The DirectX Diagnostic tool will pop up. Check your current DirectX version from the last entry in the System Information list.
Windows normally downloads and installs the latest version of DirectX supported by your system. In case it is not installed, you can download the DirectX Installer from here. If your system has DirectX version 10 or older, you need to upgrade your GPU.
2. Verify Integrity of V Rising Game Files
Verifying the integrity of game files fixes a lot of corrupt files that may have been causing the game to crash at startup. Follow these steps to verify the integrity of V Rising game files on Steam.
- Launch the Steam Desktop Client.
- Go to Library → right-click on V Rising.
- From the menu that pops up, select Properties.
- From the new window, head over to the Local Files section.
- Click on Verify integrity of game files…
- Let Steam verify the game files. The process may take a while.
- After Steam is done, the window will close automatically. Now, try launching the game and check if the problem persists,
3. Revert Overclock Settings
Overclocking your hardware makes them unstable. So, in case you have overclocked any of your components, it might stop V Rising from launching as Windows tries to prevent your system from a crash or a BSOD. Thus, you would like to revert these settings to stock. Most of the time, this helps gamers to get into the games and software they were previously locked out of.
4. Update GPU Drivers
Outdated GPU drivers can also cause a game to not launch. Thus, upgrading to the latest game-ready drivers is always recommended. Follow these links to download the latest drivers for your graphics card.

5. Disable Antivirus Software
Antivirus software causes a lot of problems and prevents games from launching. The only possible fix for this issue is to completely disable the antivirus software you are currently using. Disabling third-party antivirus software like K7 Total Security and Quickheal has a separate set of steps that you can find listed on their official website.
We will show you how to do it for the most popular antivirus software, Windows Defender here.
- Open Windows Settings up.
- Go to Privacy and Security.
- From the Security section, head over to Windows Security.
- Now, head over to Virus and threat protection.
- Under the Virus & threat protection settings section, click on Manage settings from the new window that pops up.
- Now, turn the radio button corresponding to Real-time protection off.
These fixes have worked for a bunch of V Rising gamers. Thus, it should help you to get into the game as well.
