The Price of Magic quest in Gothic 1 Remake involves making an important choice: whether to receive the Healing Rune or the Firebolt Rune. Both rewards are valuable, but one is much more beneficial than the other for offensive purposes early in the game. Here’s a quick guide on what you should consider before making the big decision.
Which Rune Should You Choose?

During The Price of Magic quest, you will find Torrez in the southwest part of Old Camp, offering to teach you magic, provided that you bring him: 1× Parchment and 2× Wolf’s Claw. Getting the items is fairly easy. Graham, who is found in a hut near the northern gate of Old Camp, sells Parchment for 13 Ore Nuggets; while the Wolf’s Claw can be bought from Mordrag (found in the market area) for 7 Ore Nuggets each.

You will receive two options from Torrez when you turn the items in, and you will have to choose between the Healing Rune and the Firebolt Rune. Each rune will help you in a different way, so thoughtful consideration is important to decide how you plan on using them.
If your goal is to get more Ore Nuggets, then you want the Healing Rune. It can be sold for approximately 401 Ore Nuggets, while the Firebolt Rune will only net you about 322 Ore Nuggets. This means that by taking the Healing Rune and selling it, you’ll have enough Ore Nuggets to go back and buy a Firebolt Rune from a merchant if he has enough funds.
Can You Get Both Runes?
Once you complete the quest The Price of Magic, you will then be able to purchase magical items from Torrez. If you choose one of the runes as your reward for completing the quest then you can buy the other one from him at a later time. You will have to pay about 322 Ore Nuggets for the Firebolt Rune and 536 Ore Nuggets for the Healing Rune.
Which Reward Should You Pick?
If you’re looking for a better way to heal or a higher value reward, then opt for the Healing Rune. If you are looking for an early ranged attack with an offensive playstyle then select the Firebolt Rune. As both of these runes can be obtained at some point during the game, there is no wrong decision.
