Tale Within a Tale is a Jianghu Legacy quest in Where Winds Meet 2.0 that revolves around investigating a mysterious love story, examining clues, and uncovering the truth behind an unsolved murder. This guide walks you through every objective needed to complete the quest and claim its rewards without missing any important steps.
How to Start the Quest
To start the quest, you’ll need to go to the marked location in Suixiang. Once you’re at the marked location, you’ll need to jump down and head right, take the stairs, stay on the same path until you reach a sort of office where you’ll find a mysterious person whose name is Zhen Sheji sitting at the desk.
What you’ll need to do is talk to him and ask him about his beloved. He’ll tell you how she was robbed of her life because the sect turned on her. He has now become a lecturer and wants to keep their love alive for which he’ll ask you to do a literary analysis of their love letters.
Once you conduct the analysis, you’ll find that the page is filled with characters like Shen and Zhen, and a corner of the letter is torn off which leaves off the addressee’s name. Go to the room nearby and check the corners for the note that’ll help you reexamine the letter for clues.
On close examination, you’ll find that the Shen and Zhen closely resemble another surname mentioned in the letter: Chen. After piecing the clues together, you’ll get the name Shen Mo which is the name of the missing addressee.
Go back to Zhen Sheji and ask him about Shen Mo and he’ll hesitate to tell you about him and call him a scrawny broke kid instead. Next, ask Zhen Sheji about his rendezvous and whether or not he saw An Ya again. He’ll confirm he did and then go on to describe her beauty. Lastly, ask him about Chen and leave.
Disguise Yourself as An Ya and Confront Zhen Sheji
Go to the other room and disguise yourself as An Ya before going back to Zhen Sheji. He’ll collapse to the ground frightened and this will prove that the love story was a lie. After that, get rid of your disguise in front of Zhen Sheji and confront him. After further interaction, you’ll find out that he’s a killer who probably killed Shen Mo, and without giving him a chance to argue, you’ll need to take him to the Bureau of Relief.
After a few days, Constable Zhen Gui will ask to meet you. When you go to him, he’ll ask you for the name of the supposed murderer you brought in. He’ll tell you how Zhen Sheji isn’t on any of the “wanted” lists and that Shen Mo is the victim of an old case. Shen Mo’s killer was never found.
More work will fall on your shoulders as you’ll agree to help find the real culprit. Start by visiting Zhen Sheji in prison for clues but he’ll only tell you how An Ya was his only supporter back when he was a struggling writer.
Write a Letter to Feng Jisheng for Clarification
After this, go upstairs, and write a letter to Feng Jisheng asking him to help you find out about Zhen Sheji. Use the wooden eagle to send the letter and then change the time to Xu hour for the day after to receive a reply. The letter will tell you that Zhen Sheji was a former disciple of the Inkbound Order and how he left in anger after finding no buyers or readers for his writings.
The letter will tell you how Zhen Sheji was last seen wandering Jianghu gathering clues for an old murder case in Kaifeng, and that the man’s name was Shen Mo.
Completing the Quest
Go and talk to Zhen Gui and he’ll tell you that Shen Mo’s murderer has been caught. Then talk with Zhen Sheji once again and give him the news. He’ll tell you everything about how An Ya helped him through difficulty and paid him to turn Shen Mo’s case into a story. Once the interaction is over, you will have completed the quest successfully.
