Sulfur is an important resource in Subnautica 2 that you will need for many advanced crafting recipes as you progress through the game. It is used together with Gold to create Strong Acid, which is required to make Advanced Wiring Kits and other high-tier equipment. With a Scanner Station and the Sonic Resonator, you can quickly locate and harvest large amounts of Sulfur whenever you need it. In this guide, we will tell you how to get Sulfur in Subnautica 2.
How to Get Sulfur

Sulfur deposits are mostly found in the warmer biome near the beginning area, but you can also get a more secure Sulfur deposit near your Lifepod, which will come in handy in the earlier stages of the game. From the Lifepod, go to the Scanner Station if you have constructed one. Scan for Sulfur, and then look for a marker that will be near your current location towards the east-southeast. Use your compass and head in the direction of about 110°.
After swimming a short distance, you will reach a warmer biome with grey rock formations and geothermal activity. Sulfur appears as mineral deposits attached to grey rock structures. Once you spot one:
- Equip the Sonic Resonator.
- Use it to break apart the deposit.
- Collect the Sulfur pieces that drop.
A single deposit can contain more than one piece of Sulfur, and deposits tend to be found close to each other. The deposits of Sulfur can be seen attached to a huge rock structure that reaches the top of the cave, except for a little space below. By swimming around the huge rock structure, you should be able to see several deposits of Sulfur surrounding it.
You will also need Sulfur and Gold to make Strong Acid. This material is used to craft Advanced Wiring Kits, which are required for many high-tier tools and important base structures later in the game.
