Smothered Flame is one of the main story quests in Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred and continues after The Fools. In this quest, you travel to the Celestia Observatory to help Tyrael and rescue Oracle Cyra before the eclipse brings disaster. Along the way, you will defend the observatory, destroy powerful siege weapons, and defeat several corrupted captains. This guide will show you how to complete the Smothered Flame quest in Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred.
Smothered Flame Quest
Smothered Flame is one of the main missions within Diablo 4. The mission starts at Mount Hefaetrus East Face in Skovos territory. At the end of that quest, simply speak with Tyrael, and once your conversation is over, Smothered Flame will start right away. Once the conversation with Tyrael is over, you have to find him again at the Celestia Observatory to the east.
Rescuing Oracle Cyra
When you arrive at the quest marker in Akarat’s Bulwark, you will see Tyrael talking to Scout Koraki. Koraki recognizes Tyrael and tells him that Tharra has left with the garrison to move towards Celestia Observatory to see the eclipse. Moreover, she informs that Oracle Cyra has been captured by the Amazonians and is imprisoned in the observatory.
Tyrael asks you to save Oracle Cyra; however, he advises you not to engage in any battle as the Amazonians are not your real enemy. You need to proceed to the northwest until you reach Celestia Observatory.
Once you arrive, you will find the Amazonians having Oracle Cyra in their custody. Cyra requests that they allow you to talk, as the time left is very little. Just as the Shieldmatron begins to listen, the eclipse reaches totality. The unusual occurrence starts corrupting the Amazonians, making them hostile. Here, your only option would be to fight them. Defeat all the corrupted Amazonians to move ahead on the quest.
Following the fight, Oracle Cyra asks you to lock down the observatory. While you are performing the task, you hear the sounds of a Corrupted Spearmaiden killing one of the seers outside.
Now that you have shut the door, go back to Oracle Cyra. Very soon after this, some corrupted Amazons will break into the room and attack Cyra and the seers. Your job here is to protect them by defeating every corrupted enemy that attacks.
Once you have defeated all the enemies, talk to Oracle Cyra. She thanks you and rewards you with a gift from Lorath Nahr.
Defeating the Amazonians
After that, move towards the opening in the wall. There, you’ll find Captain Tharra and her warriors. Ask Tharra whether the oracle is still alive, and she’ll ask you the same thing. Inform Tharra that Oracle Cyra is safe with the seers of her order. Interact with the opening and drop-down near Captain Tharra to move forward with the mission.
Tharra informs you that almost half of the Amazonian legion has been corrupted by Akarat. The captain assembles her soldiers and commands everyone to concentrate on destroying the siege machines of the enemy forces first.
After that, move southeast along the wall from here. On moving forward, kill the corrupted Amazonian soldiers and destroy the Ballista machines installed along the way. While destroying the siege machines, keep in mind that the ballistae may shoot at you in this area.
Defeating the Captains
After all the ballistae have been destroyed, you will be notified by Tharra that the siege weapons have been defeated. Afterwards, go to the entrance of the observatory and destroy the Battering Ram that has been used by the corrupted force to destroy the door.
Now that you have already destroyed the siege weapons, it is time for you to find out the corrupted captains who are commanding the attack. Go across the bridge that is located towards the southeast area of the observatory.
The first corrupted captain that you will defeat is Captain Magda. Before you begin your combat against her, she will accuse Captain Tharra of being disloyal to their queen. Next up, move southwest to meet Captain Cybele, who attacks Tharra and attacks you instantly. Along the way, you will also meet another corrupted captain, Captain Okalla, who says that you do not deserve the mercy of Akarat.
Defeating all three corrupted captains, you can now go back to the observatory and talk to Oracle Cyra. You will then have another conversation with Cyra and Captain Tharra. This will be the end of the Smothered Flame quest.
