Lord of Hatred is one of the most important main story quests in Diablo IV. In this quest, you travel through the Pools of Creation, uncover the truth about Akarat, and face Mephisto in a challenging boss fight. Along the way, you must avoid powerful attacks, survive the fight and use Lilith’s blade to stop him once and for all. This guide will show you how to complete the Lord of Hatred quest in Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred.
Lord of Hatred Quest

Lord of Hatred is one of the main story quests in the game Diablo IV. The quest is set at the Ritual Chamber, which can be found in the Skovos area. In Delivering a Promise, you accompany Tyrael in going to the Pools of Creation area, where the story quest ends, and Lord of Hatred automatically starts. When Tyrael plunges his sword into the corruption of Mephisto, the way to the Pools of Creation is opened. Go forward to enter the area.
Finding Akarat

In your next step, you need to find Akarat, who is waiting at a place known as The Birthplace, located in the deepest parts of the Pools of Creation. All you have to do is follow the main road and walk towards the quest marker. On your journey, you can easily notice that there are many pilgrims moving in the same direction as you, which makes it easier for you to find Akarat.
Once you find The Birthplace, you can see that the pilgrims are surrounded by Akarat, thinking that he is going to work a miracle. Walk up to him and confront him to trigger a cutscene and continue the story.
While battling Akarat, you will discover that the monster is none other than Mephisto himself. Mephisto will tell you that the pilgrims approached him on their own and did not require saving. Before Mephisto manages to control your mind, you will strike him down with Lilith’s sword.
Mephisto becomes angry with you, particularly upon discovering what sword you had used against him. Mephisto dives into the water, corrupting it and unveiling his true form. The fight will begin as he attacks the pilgrims by flinging large amounts of hot rock at them.
Defeating Mephisto

The strategy during this phase is just to evade his attacks. Always move and look out for black spots on the floor, as they show areas that will be occupied by the falling molten rocks. After the attack sequence ends, the health bar of Mephisto will appear at the top of your screen, and this indicates that he has become vulnerable to damage. Defeating him once in the battle does not mean he is dead, since he will come back for another attack after some time.
When Mephisto falls after the battle, a cutscene plays showing him lying on the ground and in a wounded condition. Although defeated, Mephisto is insulting you for all the pain and effort you have gone through because he will rise from Hell soon after.
This time, your character knows that everything will be done differently. Using the blade of Lilith, you strike down Mephisto and send him away forever. Soon after, Mephisto is drawn into a black void and vanishes into thin air.
After the scene comes to an end, head towards Tyrael. Talk to him to advance the story. Tyrael is glad that you have made it alive, but he tells you both that it is important that you leave the place right now. After that, a portal to the Temple of Union will open up. Interact with the portal to finish the Lord of Hatred quest.
