Salt is one of the basic yet important resources in Windrose, which you will have to begin using once you reach the second biome. It is primarily required to cook, and if you want to improve your meals and sustain yourself, you will require a good amount of it. There is no specific guideline in the game as to how to find salt, and thus, it may seem a little difficult. Once you know where to look, it’s actually pretty easy to collect.
How to Get Salt

One of the things that you will need when you enter your second biome is salt. The first way you can getn this material is through defeating enemy vessels while navigating. You have some chances of obtaining salt from these enemy vessels, but they are not high enough for you to depend on it. The drop rate is quite low, so you might go through several fights without getting any.

Another option to get salt is by purchasing it from the camp in Tortuga. If you complete the required quest, it will guide you straight to this location, so you won’t have to search for it. There is an NPC selling salt in that camp that you need to find after arriving. You’ll need to be at least level 2 to buy it. Each piece of salt costs just 2 silver, making this the best way to quickly stock up without relying on random drops from ships.
How to Use Salt
Salt is mainly used as a cooking ingredient, and you’ll need it for several food recipes in the game. Once you start cooking more often, it becomes pretty important to keep some in your inventory. Here’s what you can make using salt:
- Burrito – uses 2 salt
- Chowder – uses 2 salt
- Gazpacho – uses 4 salt
- Seafood Platter – uses 4 salt
So if you’re planning to cook these dishes regularly, it’s a good idea to stock up on salt whenever you can.
