As you explore Hopeport in Brighter Shores, you’ll have the chance to level up a variety of professions, and one of the classic ones you’ll encounter is fishing. Becoming a Fisherman is one of the first professions you can unlock in Brighter Shores Episode 1 Hopeport, and it’s definitely worth leveling up. Unlike the Guard profession, fishing is safe and simple, all you need is your first fishing tool. In this guide, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know to get started with fishing in Brighter Shores, including tips for leveling up your fishing skill.
Fishing in Brighter Shores
Fishing is a great way to make money early on in the game. Not only that fish is also a key ingredient for the Chef and Alchemist professions, making them even more valuable. Before you can start fishing in Brighter Shores, you’ll need to grab a Fishing Spear. You can buy one at the fishing supply store located just to the right of the Town Square; it’s a small building with a fishing sign hanging outside. The spear costs 12 silver. It’s not too expensive, but if you don’t have enough, you can earn silver by defeating enemies, looting chests, or selling any items you’ve foraged.
How to level up to in fishing in Brighter Shores
Once you have got your rod, it’s time to find a fish that matches your level. At level zero, you’ll be looking for a Mottled Flounder, which can be found on the beach just south of the Sea Road. You’ll actually visit this area during the tutorial, when you’re collecting kelp for a potion, so it should be familiar to you. As you level up, you’ll unlock the ability to catch new types of fish. Just keep in mind that the fish you catch should match your current level.
As you level up your fishing skill, you’ll see a pop-up showing your “reward.” When you reach fishing level 10, the pop-up will highlight the Lonely Pufferfish. Instead of searching for this specific fish, it will replace the previous pufferfish on your map. This means that the Sandy Pufferfish in Wilhope Crossing will now be at a higher level, and you can catch this upgraded version to earn more fishing experience.
Level | Location of Fish |
Level 0 to 2 | Head to the East beach, just past the Waterfronts, and catch Mottled Flounder. Once your inventory is full, sell them to the Fishmonger on Eel Street, which is just a short walk away. |
Level 2 to 4 | Next, catch Lesser Eels by the Eel Street Bridge. You can sell these to the Fishmonger too, but it’s better to save them for cooking, as they’re useful for leveling up the Chef profession. To store them, head past the Town Square to the Delectable Dab Restaurant kitchen and place them in the ingredient cabinet. |
Level 4 to 8 | Head to Wilhope Crossing to catch Sandy Pufferfish. These are sell-only, so you can head back to Eel Street to sell them. Once you reach level 7, Olive Flounder replaces the Mottled Flounder at East Beach. However, the Sandy Pufferfish still gives decent XP (71, compared to the Flounder’s 75) and has a nearby vendor, making it a great option for farming money for a while. |
Level 9 to 10 | At this point, all three fishing spots (East Beach, Eel Street Bridge, and Wilhope Crossing) will have upgraded their fish one more time. While Pufferfish remains the best way to make money. |
